New signage will be displayed across downtown Knoxville to remind people that staying safe and healthy can help downtown businesses stay open during the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting on Wednesday, Aug. 5, the messaging will be installed in businesses and public areas around the downtown district.

The eye-catching signage, provided by Downtown Knoxville Alliance, will educate the public about the health and safety policies at downtown establishments.

“Downtown restaurants, shops and businesses are the heart of our city, and it is important we support them however we can through these challenging times,” said Michele Hummel, executive director of the Downtown Knoxville Alliance. “For patrons, an effort as simple as adhering to health and safety guidelines can help contain community spread, which can help these business owners continue to keep their doors open.

“The bright and friendly signage will create a consistent message and reminder across downtown.”

The signage includes window clings, sidewalk decals and educational posters. The posters highlight the “5 Action” initiative that outlines five steps the community can take to help keep Knoxville open, including wearing masks and staying home when sick.

As the pandemic continues, the Downtown Knoxville Alliance, city of Knoxville and downtown businesses will continue to work together to encourage everyone to do their part to keep Knoxville open for business.
